U.S. Launches New Strikes Against Iran
The United States launched a new wave of military strikes against Iran on Wednesday. According to the U.S. military, the attacks targeted Iranian military capabilities believed to threaten ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's busiest oil shipping routes.
Iran responded by saying it struck U.S. military targets in the region as renewed fighting continues despite an earlier agreement aimed at ending the conflict.
Statewide Air Quality Alert for Michigan
A statewide Air Quality Alert remains in effect as smoke from more than 100 Canadian wildfires continues to drift into Michigan.
The smoke contains fine particle pollution that can lead to coughing, shortness of breath, dizziness and fatigue. It can also worsen asthma and other chronic respiratory conditions.
Health experts recommend limiting time outdoors whenever possible. If you must be outside for an extended period, wearing a properly fitted N95 mask can help reduce exposure.
DNR Approves Permit for Great Lakes Tunnel Project
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has issued a permit for Enbridge Energy's proposed Great Lakes Tunnel Project.
The project would replace the existing Line 5 dual pipelines that currently rest on the lakebed beneath the Straits of Mackinac.
State officials say the permit includes environmental protections designed to minimize impacts on rare plants, wildlife and sensitive habitats.

Saturday will be another warm day with highs near 90, along with a chance of showers and thunderstorms later in the day.
